New song update!

Another song preview was recorded and uploaded today! Check out the Links and Media tab to listen to it. This brings the total to 7, only 3 more to go before all the instrumental demos are completed. Hopefully the final mastered songs are recorded before the end of the year.

Chronicles of an Up-and-Coming Band Ch. 2

Finding people who are like-minded seems to be very difficult these days. I know of a lot of people who are creative musicians who for one reason or other are stuck in bands that are not that great or bands that seem to have stalled in their writing process.

I wonder if it's always been like this for everyone in this neck of the woods.

The worst part is trying to find a singer down here. You know, not everyone wants to listen to a guy scream for his life on every single song, or on any song, for that matter. That is the main problem I have with Death Metal in general, or any band, style, or genre that features a screaming/growling vocalist. A lot of those bands write amazing music, but the screaming makes it impossible for me to like any of their material. I respect the fact that you can do that without permanently messing up your throat, but I like vocal melodies because, if used properly, they can add a whole different dimension to the songs. It really is like having another instrument in the band.

Screams, in my humble opinion, seem to be more one-dimensional and add very little to a song, except maybe for aggression, which is OK if you're into that sort of thing, I guess.

I can't pretend that the music that I write is cutting edge and way ahead of everything that you've ever heard, because that would be a terrible lie. The truth is that my guitar playing skills are not what I would like for them to be, which is very frustrating. There are things that I hear in my mind that I can't play, which gets me really mad at myself for not being able to keep up with the things I create.

However, I am fortunate enough that I am relatively open-minded when it comes to music, so if I can't play something on the guitar, then I just arrange it for another instrument, which adds a bit of flavor and spice to the songs. That's why you'll hear string sections, pianos, harps, etc. on some of the songs.

I guess it's a blessing in disguise.

Song Demo Updates

I've recorded and uploaded some demo tracks into Youtube and Soundcloud in the past few weeks. However, I got kinda sick this weekend and did not feel like dealing with the hassle that is the recording process. So far, I have 6 of the 10 songs recorded as demos, so that means I have to finish up the last 4 in the near future. On top of that, I will have to re-record everything once I get a real drummer and a singer on board.

Whether or not I ever get to perform these songs live as a full band with other people is beside the point now. I would love for that to happen, but realistically, it seems far fetched as of right now. All that I really care about is getting some lyrics down so that I could ask some people if they are interested. The last thing I want to do is record the vocal demos myself because, as I mentioned before, I don't have much of a singing voice.

Chronicles of an Up-and-Coming Band Ch. 1

So . . .

This is the story.

The band concept was conceived sometime around 2007-2008. I had previously been in a band that played mostly straight forward rock and metal (around 2005-2006), but when some other members and I tried to add some progressive elements to the music, the singer decided to pursue other interests.

We tried to keep things going for a while, but we weren't successful. I was then left with all this music and no one to play it with. Needless to say, that was not a nice place to find myself in.

I then decided to try and recruit other people to my cause, but that didn't work out either. Most of the bands in the area of the country that I live in are either Death Metal or some sort of Punk/Rock hybrid, and most of the people I talked to either didn't like the musical direction I was taking or had other reasons for not being able to commit.

That situation discouraged me for a while, but then I decided to keep pushing this project because I really felt good about the songs I had written. I figured that as long as I liked them, it really didn't matter if other people didn't.

Thus, Tainted Equilibrium was born.

I had to build a small studio from the ground up, and with the help of my cousin, we now have Attic Rec Music. It's not really a label (although I'm entertaining  the idea of turning it into one). Unfortunately, he has to go away for a few months out of the year for work purposes, and since he's the one with all the technical know-how, I'm not really able to record things properly.

Anyways, I now had another problem: I had no idea how to translate my ideas into music. I had enough guitar riffs, but no bass, drums, or additional arrangements to speak of. I then had to find a transcribing program so that I could write my riffs into notation. Many hours were spent doing that, and then I decided to add the other instruments in. Since I have no idea how to play the drums, that was a major obstacle; nevertheless, I gave it a try and came up with some basic tracks for the music I had.

After a couple of months, I had all the music written and ready to go. I was able to translate the notation into MIDI tracks and feed them into a DAW, so I only have to record the guitar parts. The problem I'm facing now is that I have no lyrics and no singer. It may seem like the Universe doesn't want me to release this music because of all the problems I've had along the way, but I'm not gonna give up.

The search for a singer continues. The only reason why I can't do the singing myself is because I have no talent for that.Believe me, if I could, I would have finished this project a long time ago. Hopefully somebody out there who hears the music will like it enough to contact me about this. In the meantime, I'll keep posting song previews, updates, and random thoughts here as well as in other websites.
